Sorry for the lack of updates recently. I have been busy working with several others to stop overdevelopment at La Salette.
Members of Berkley Citizens United and BRARR, as well as many members of the community, have been working to spread the word about this ill conceived plan.
I believe the La Salette property could be developed in a way that benefits all the parties involved, but this plan will be an albatross around the neck of our city for generations.
Problems with the Planning Commission
What concerns me most is that five members of our planning commission allowed this plan to get this far, this fast.
The proposed development at La Salette is a terrible plan in so many ways, many of which the commissioners acknowledged, yet they still stretched the law past all logic to allow this to move forward.
Now this has set up a situation where the developer has pitted the church many people love against the rest of the community. By ignoring their responsibilities, the planning commission has allowed a rift to form in the city.
What could you do about it, Dennis?
As a member of council, I will do my part to make sure the the men and women that serve on our advisory boards understand the weight of their responsibilities and are not so willing to throw away the law when it suits their purpose. I addressed city council on this issue at their June 18th meeting.
What can I do?
If you oppose this plan, be sure to sign the petition. Attend the planning commission meeting on June 27th, or if you can't, write to the city. Share this post and help spread the word to stop this before it is too late.
Also, consider applying for the planning commission. Three terms expire in July, and city council has the opportunity to step up and start to correct the problems. The terms appointed now are more important than ever, as these members will have a seat when we start our Master Plan updates in 2018/19.
