I ran for City Council in 2017 because I care deeply about Berkley and believed residents deserved a stronger voice in the decisions that shape our city. From the start, I’ve worked to improve communication, listen closely to concerns, and make city government more open, responsive, and efficient.
We’ve come a long way, but there’s still more ahead. I’ll keep putting my knowledge and experience to work to make Berkley the best it can be.
Engaging the Community
- Had thousands of conversations on social media, by email, and by phone to answer questions and share updates.
- Helped hundreds of residents solve problems and get things done at City Hall.
- Hosted regular conversations to hear directly from the community.
Protecting What Matters
- Led the effort to ban new retail pet stores in Berkley and enact humane regulations for the existing one.
- Backed tree planting programs and policy changes to expand and protect Berkley’s tree canopy.
- Helped update zoning and planning rules to preserve our small-town feel while encouraging sensible growth.
Communication & Transparency
- Led efforts to publish clear summaries of upcoming and recent council meetings.
- Advocated for earlier release of meeting materials so residents can weigh in before votes.
- Pushed for more online services to make it easier for residents to get things done.
Infrastructure & Capital Improvements
- Helped launch a pilot program to provide no-cost backflow valves to protect homes from basement flooding.
- Enacted legislation to prevent new construction from flooding existing homes.
- Advocated for bundling major infrastructure projects to save money and reduce disruptions.
- Pushed for better tracking of city assets and long-term planning for maintenance and replacement.
Committed to Learning & Training
- Completed over 600 hours of continuing education including city finance, planning, law, public safety, and more.
- Serve as President of the Elected Officials Academy, helping local leaders across Michigan build their skills.
- Support ongoing training for staff and board members to help city government run effectively and fairly.
Fiscal Responsibility
- Support budgets that maintain city services without overextending our finances.
- Push for multi-year budget planning to prepare for future infrastructure and staffing needs.
- Question new proposals to ensure they’re necessary, affordable, and sustainable.
Accountability and High Standards
- Push for stronger internal processes, safeguards, and honest communication when problems arise.
- Encourage consistent, proactive code enforcement so all residents are treated fairly and neighborhood standards are maintained.
