City Council Update, March 20, 2023

City Council approved Berkley Days (with fireworks), started preparation for Dream Cruise, discussed property tax assistance, recognized Mayor Terbrack, and more.

Dan Terbrack was recognized for his 15 years of service to the City as a Councilmember and as Mayor. Local, County, and State dignitaries came to recognize all he has done for the city.

Berkley Days was approved to hold their annual fair from May 11 to 14. It will include:

  • Midway Rides
  • Kids Zone
  • Food
  • Music
  • 5k/10k Run
  • Taste of Berkley returns

To celebrate the 100th year of Berkley becoming a village, a fireworks display is being planned for Friday, May 12 (rain date May 13) at Dusk. They are being privately funded through donations. The safety plan has the approval of our Emergency Operations Manager Jack Blanchard.

See the Berkley Days website for more details on events and times.

Council also established a committee to begin preparations for Dream Cruise and CruiseFest.

The City's contract with SMART for van service for seniors and the disabled was renewed. You can read more about the program here and here.

The pet sales ordinance was not on the agenda. More information is being gathered to make a legally solid ordinance. However, I hope that we can introduce a temporary moratorium on new stores at our April 3 meeting. Such a moratorium could go into effect immediately as we draft the permanent law.
