I attended the tree board meeting tonight where they are discussing potential changes to our tree ordinance.
The board has been working hard for many months now to look at ways to protect existing trees during construction, to continue to protect our public street trees, and to give code enforcement the tools to deal with dangerous and noxious trees.
I am particularly looking forward to new laws that will help protect or replace most trees affected by construction activity. Trees are an incredibly valuable resource in Berkley, and it is important we do what we can to protect that resource.
The tree board has also been diligent to write the ordinance in a way that protects the public good without causing a burden on people or strip them of their rights on their private property.
We should expect to see the proposed ordinance come before city council in the next few months.
